Scoil Náisiúnta Cillín Liath, Killeenleagh, Co. Kerry

Fáiltiú an Phríomhoide Principals Welcome

Tá Scoil Náisiúnta Chillín Liath suite ar bhruach abhainn na hUíne i gcroílár Ghaeltacht na Dromoda i nDeisceart Chiarraí. Tá an t-ádh linn a bheith ag obair agus ag foghlaim i gceantar atá saibhir i dtraidisiún, cultúr agus teanga.

Scoil Náisiúnta Cillín Liath is beautifully located on the banks of the River Inny in the heart of the Dromid Gaeltacht in South Kerry. We are privileged to teach and learn in a community that is rich in tradition, culture and language.

Fís & Ráisteas Misiún Vision & Mission Statement

Sé príomhchuspóir na scoile ná gach uile aicme den phobal a thabhairt le chéile i gcomhthionól foghlama – idir dhaltaí, thuismitheoirí, mhúinteoirí agus an Bórd Bainistíochta. Tá sé mar aidhm againn go mbeidh an scoil ina háit shona, shlán agus shocair, áit ina bhfásfaidh gach páiste i muinín agus i bhféinmheas agus áit a mbeidh cothrom na féinne ann do chách.

Cothaímid forbairt iomlán an pháiste go spioradálta, go hintleachtúil, go sóisialta agus go fisiciúil. Táimid dílis dár n-éiteas Gaeltachta, ag cur na Gaeilge chun cinn mar theanga nádúrtha chumarsáide agus ag spreagadh bróid inár n-oidhreacht, ár gceantar agus ár gcultúr dúchasach.

Táimid tiomanta do mheabhairshláinte agus folláine na bpáistí, do chur chun cinn cruthaitheachta agus smaointeoireachta criticiúla agus do scileanna nua-aimseartha amhail litearthacht dhigiteach agus feasacht chomhshaoil. Tugaimid luach ar ghuth na ndaltaí agus tugaimid deiseanna dóibh a bheith páirteach i saol agus i gcinntí na scoile.

Tá sé tábhachtach dúinn a bheith ag obair i gcomhpháirt leis na tuismitheoirí, leis an bpobal áitiúil agus leis an bparóiste, ag cothú atmaisféar a thacaíonn le fás iomlánaíoch gach linbh.

The primary purpose of our school is to bring together all members of our community in a shared learning environment pupils, parents, teachers and the Board of Management. We aim for the school to be a happy, safe and calm place where every child grows in confidence and self-respect and where fairness is at the heart of everything we do.

We are committed to the full development of every child spiritual, intellectual, social and physical. As a Gaeltacht school, we promote Irish as the natural language of communication, and we nurture pride in our heritage, our locality and our cultural traditions.

We are dedicated to fostering pupils’ wellbeing and mental health, to encouraging creativity and critical thinking and to equipping them with modern skills such as digital literacy and environmental awareness. We value the voice of our pupils and provide opportunities for them to actively participate in the life and decisions of the school.

We recognise the importance of working in partnership with parents, the local community and the parish, creating an environment that supports the holistic growth of every child.

✈️ Amhrán áitiúil- The Great German Plane- collected and preserved in the Binneas Collection of traditional Irish songs✈️. On St. Stephen’s day 26th December 1941, a German reconnaissance JU88 aircraft with a crew of four, running low in fuel, made an emergency landing at Caol Boig bog in the townland of Canuig in Dromid Parish. Jack Carey of Foildrenagh, the first person on the scene, alerted the authorities, and the Waterville LDF unit arrested the crew and guarded the plane. The crew were detained in the water tower of the Cable Station in Waterville and were wined and dined by the ladies of the station pending their internment for the war’s duration in Tintown Camp in the Curragh. The plane was burnt by the military in the New Year and the remaining wreckage was sold to a Mr. Sheehan of Cahersiveen. Some souvenirs of the plane remain, including a seat, a Flare gun etc. Fine shirts were made by the women of the area from the plane’s silk parachutes.
